The Utrecht Vocal Ensemble counts about 30 singers and brings vocal music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. We prefer music from early and very recent times, but nevertheless we also gladly brought a romantic program like Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, or a classic like Händels Messiah.

Every year we present two programs, mostly linked to a theme. See Wat deden we (What did we do) for a brief history. There’s a lot of images and programs, so maybe you could trace our musical history without knowing Dutch.

Johannes Gierl has been educated as a singer and musician as well as a conductor, and since his start with UVE in 2023 he accompanies us in our strive to improve our technique and sound.

We are in for musical combinations with choirs or other music groups, like we did with Gallina (Ljubljana) in 2015 and 2017, with Photonen (Amsterdam) in 2019 and with Enchore (Berlin) in 2024.

In 2018 we gave two concerts during Europa Cantat, in Tallinn. Main focus in 2019 was the All-Night Vigil of Sergei Rachmaninoff. In 2020 SARS-CoV-2 (‘corona’) blocked our plans. Nevertheless we were able to give a concert on 1-11, with a livestream.

In 2021, The Utrecht Vocal Ensemble existed 75 years. Covid prohibited a party in 2021… Celebration concerts were in 2022, 6 and 12 of November.
