Comfort ye, comfort ye My people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness: ‘Prepare ye the way of the Lord,make straight in the desert a highway for our God.’

Weest getroost, weest getroost Mijn volk: zo spreekt uw God. Spreekt vanuit uw hart tot Jeruzalem en roept haar toe dat haar strijd is volbracht, dat haar ongerechtigheid is vergeven. De stem van een roepende in de woestijn: ‘Bereidt de weg des Heren, effent in de woestijn een baan voor onze God.’

Ev’ry valley shall be exalted, and ev’ry mountain and hill made low, the crooked straight, and the rough places plain.

Elk dal zal verhoogd worden en elke berg en heuvel geslecht. Wat krom is zal recht en wat ruw is zal vlak gemaakt worden.

Zo spreekt de Heer der heerscharen: nog even, een ogenblik nog en Ik zal de hemelen, de aarde, de zee en het droge

Want zie, duisternis zal de aarde bedekken en diepe duisternis de volkeren. Maar over u zal de Heer opgaan en Zijn heerlijkheid zal over u schijnen. En de ongelovigen zullen opgaan naar uw licht en koningen naar de glans van uw opkomst.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; and they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Verheug u zeer, o dochter van Sion! Juich, o dochter van Jeruzalem! Zie, uw Koning komt tot u! Hij is de Redder vol rechtvaardigheid. Hij zal de volkeren vrede verkondigen.

Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing.

Dan zullen de ogen der blinden geopend worden en de oren der doven ontsloten. Dan zal de lamme springen als een hert, en de tong van de stomme zal zingen.

He shall feed His flock like a shepherd, and He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom and gently lead those that are with young. Come unto Him, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and He will give you rest. Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him, for He is meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Hij zal Zijn kudde weiden als een herder,

Surely, He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him.

Waarlijk, onze zwakheden heeft Hij op zich genomen, onze smarten heeft Hij gedragen. Om onze overtredingen werd Hij gewond, verbrijzeld om onze ongerechtigheid. De straf, die ons vrede brengt, droeg Hij.

Third Part
40. Air – soprano
I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. For now is Christ risen from the dead, the first fruits of them that sleep.

Ik weet dat mijn Verlosser leeft en dat Hij zal verschijnen op aarde op de dag des oordeels. Al doorknagen wormen mijn vlees, toch zal mijn lichaam God aanschouwen. Want nu is Christus opgestaan uit de dood, als eerste
van hen die ontslapen zijn.

Since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Sinds de dood kwam door de mens, kwam ook door de mens de verrijzenis

Dan zal het woord dat geschreven is werkelijkheid worden: de dood is verslonden door de overwinning.

Als God vóór ons is, wie zal dan tegen ons zijn? Wie zal iets inbrengen tegen
de uitverkorenen Gods? Het is God die rechtvaardigt. Wie is Hij die veroordeelt?
Het is Jezus Christus die gestorven is, meer nog, die verrezen is, die zit aan de rechterhand van God en die voor ons pleit.

Worthy is the Lamb, that was slain, and hath redeemed us to God by His blood, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Blessing and honour, glory and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever. Amen.
